3 needle bind off

Step 1: Hold the two sets of stitches you want to join parallel to each other, with the right sides of the fabric facing each other. In other words, the wrong sides should be facing out.

Step 2: Using a third knitting needle (usually one size larger for ease), insert it into the first stitch on the front needle as if to knit and then into the first stitch on the back needle as if to knit. Essentially, you're knitting these two stitches together with the third needle.

Step 3: Wrap your yarn around the third needle, just like a regular knit stitch.

Step 4: Pull the loop through both stitches, effectively knitting them together. You now have one stitch on your third needle.

Step 5: Repeat steps 2 to 4 for the next pair of stitches on the front and back needles. You should have one stitch on the third needle for each pair of stitches you join.

Step 6: After you've bound off all the stitches in this manner, cut the yarn, leaving a tail of a few inches.

Step 7: Thread the yarn tail through the last stitch on the third needle, and pull it tight to secure.

3 needle bind off ables you to join two pieces of fabric with live stitches leaving a beautiful seam. As a designer I use this techniques when ending a hood.
