Purl stitch (p)

Step 1: Hold Your Needles

Hold one knitting needle in each hand. The needle with the stitches you want to purl should be in your right hand, and the empty needle in your left hand.

Step 2: Insert the Right Needle

Insert the right-hand needle from right to left into the first stitch on the left-hand needle. The right needle should come in front of the left needle.

Step 3: Yarn Position

With your right hand, bring the working yarn (the yarn attached to your ball of yarn) to the front of your work, so it's in between the two needles.

Step 4: Wrap the Yarn

Wrap the working yarn around the right-hand needle, going from right to left and over the top of the right needle. The working yarn should now be in front of the right needle.

Step 5: Pull Through

Using the right needle, pull the loop of yarn through the stitch on the left needle, creating a new stitch on the right needle.

Step 6: Slide Off

Slide the original stitch off the left needle. You should now have one purl stitch on the right needle.

Purling is another fundamental knitting stitch that follows the same steps as the knit stitch but with slightly different movements. It results in a look similar to the classic knit stitch, often referred to as the "Garter Stitch."
