Crochet front or back loop only (FLO, BLO)

Back Loop Only (BLO) with single crochet:

When you crochet in the back loop only, you work your stitches by inserting your hook into the back loop of the stitch. Here's how to do it:

b. Insert your hook into the back loop of the stitch you want to work into. The back loop is the loop that is farthest from you when you look at the top of the stitch.

c. Yarn over and pull up a loop.

d. Complete the stitch as usual. For example, if you're making a single crochet (sc), you would yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook.

Working in the back loop only creates a ribbed or textured effect on the front of your fabric.

Front Loop Only (FLO) with single crochet:

When you crochet in the front loop only, you work your stitches by inserting your hook into the front loop of the stitch. Here's how to do it:

b. Insert your hook into the front loop of the stitch you want to work into. The front loop is the loop closest to you when you look at the top of the stitch.

c. Yarn over and pull up a loop.

d. Complete the stitch as usual. For example, if you're making a single crochet (sc), you would yarn over and pull through both loops on your hook.

Crocheting in the back loop only (BLO) or front loop only (FLO) can create different textures and effects in your project
