Front and back post double crochet (fpdc/bpdc)

Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc):

  1. This technique involves working around the front of the post.

  2. Yarn over your hook.

  3. Insert your hook from the front to the back around the post of the double crochet (or other designated stitch) in the previous row. This means you'll go behind the stitch and come out on the other side of the post.

  4. Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should now have three loops on your hook.

  5. Yarn over again.

  6. Pull through the first two loops on your hook. You should have two loops remaining.

  7. Yarn over once more.

  8. Pull through the last two loops on your hook to complete the FPdc.

Back Post Double Crochet (bpdc):

  1. This technique involves working around the back of the post.

  2. Yarn over your hook.

  3. Insert your hook from the back to the front around the post of the double crochet (or other designated stitch) in the previous row. This means you'll go in front of the stitch and come out on the other side of the post.

  4. Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should now have three loops on your hook.

  5. Yarn over again.

  6. Pull through the first two loops on your hook. You should have two loops remaining.

  7. Yarn over once more.

  8. Pull through the last two loops on your hook to complete the BPdc.

These stitches create a ribbed or textured effect, and they are commonly used in crochet patterns to add depth and interest to your work.
