Purl 2 stitches together (p2tog)

Step 1: Start with your knitting project and have the working yarn in the front of your work (since you're purling).

Step 2: Insert your right-hand needle into the next two stitches on your left-hand needle, going from right to left, just as if you were going to purl them individually.

Step 3: Bring the yarn around the right-hand needle from right to left, just like a regular purl stitch.

Step 4: Use the right-hand needle to purl these two stitches together as if they were one stitch. This means you're creating one purl stitch by working through both of them at the same time.

Step 5: Carefully slide both original stitches off the left-hand needle.

This stitch is usually worked on the purl side of work or on the reverse stockinette stitch side of the work because it is more discrete. It is a quick and simple way to decrease a stitch, but it leans to the right.
